Sr. Benefits Specialist - Columbia, MD

Under minimal supervision, the incumbent is responsible for assigned diverse tasks mainly related to benefits and leave of absences, to support the HR group and company needs.  Must be well organized, possess outstanding administrative skills, and be able to relate well to employees and senior management. The incumbent must have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.  The Sr. Benefits Specialist is responsible for day to day duties related to the benefits, and other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Although this position entails numerous diverse tasks and responsibilities, the most essential functions of this position is to cover benefits administration, employee functions, leave of absence and provide generalist support to employees in a variety of areas. Incumbent may additionally provide support on employee relations and recruitment as needed.

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline is required. (Although qualified years of experience in HR may be substituted for education.)  HR Certification (PHR or CEBS) is highly preferred, but not required.  Incumbent must have verifiable and progressively more responsible experience in human resources at the benefits level of at least three years and at least four or more years in generalist HR activities. Concentration of knowledge and experience in employment laws / regulations, employee morale boosting programs and benefits / cobra administration is required.
